You can get at a very low prices those older sim like IL2 1946 and the IL2 Cliffs of Dover. But I recommend strongly the IL2 Sturmovik the new version. People that tell you not it's because they never tried or it is based on a old Beta communication. As For a Sim aircraft it is real hard to do it is the hardest work on all the Game genre by far. Here my take IL2:1946 is fun if you want to start and it shows it age now and everything is simplified not like War of Thunder which is a game. Keep this in mind.

IL2 1946 can run on older computers but if you do have a good machine I recommend the newer Sim IL2 battle of Stalingrad is now the way to go if you do like WW2 the graphics and physics are more conplex than 1946. If you like jets DCS is the best option it's a fantastic simulator and more advanced. Cliff of Dover sis basically a dead sim that some are trying to re-activate but alas so many things are not right. So I would drop it for now. If you want lots of fights close range you will love Rise of Flight it is a great sim for WW1 pilots and atmosphere.

So for WW2 get IL2:Battle of Staligrad or Moscow Pure dogfighting and the best way to learn how to fight. No other than Rise of Flight. And the jets the Awesome DCS. Forget the rest. Dude, get Il2 CoD (which I think is like 10USD on steam or something) and apply Fusion mod (google it) on it. It is amazing with it. So much better than BoS imho.

BoS has too simplistic damage model and view distance is massive meh plus flight models for germans are kinda disappointing too. Don't get me wrong, you can absolutely destroy people if you know how to fly german fighters, but you just don't get out the same performance what you'd expect, it seems devs don't understand winter vs summer performance nor are they willing to take into account any engine performance beyond so called 'safe' levels. I kinda fly all sims starting from DCS to any IL2, but for now I think the best WWII experience is with IL2 CoD Fusion mod. When DCS is going to get their thing together for their WWII project then I reckon it is going to walk over all of IL2 games, since IL2 is still just a 'game' while DCS is the proper simulation, which I think is going to be amazing.
